1920's Bungalo renovation
A thoughtful renovation that preserves the scale and character of the original 1920s bungalow while adapting the house for contemporary living.
Working in collaboration with Day + Age Studio, this renovation began with a close look at both the character of the original house and the practical ways it was no longer serving its owner. Early in the project, asbestos and lead were identified and professionally abated, allowing the renovation to move forward with the existing structure safely opened up and understood.
Much of the new interior work was designed to feel native to the house. WindsorONE trim profiles were used to maintain period-appropriate proportions and detailing, while the floor plan was selectively reworked rather than broadly opened up. At the front of the house, an existing circulation path was closed off to create a new powder room, addressing a long-standing disconnect between the formal front entry and the way the house is actually used from the rear, where the owner typically arrives and parks.
The result is a bungalow that functions more naturally for everyday life while retaining the scale, trim language, and quiet character of the original 1920s architecture.
